The best days out

Half day

Lake Bled & the Island

Walk the lakeside promenade and take a hand-rowed pletna (or rent a rowboat) to the island church — ring the wishing bell for luck.

Getting there: Promenade starts a short walk from the villa; pletna boats leave from several shore points.

Good to know: Promenade anytime; boats run through the day in season.

Half day

Bled Castle

Slovenia's oldest castle on a cliff above the lake — museum, terraces, printworks, wine cellar, and the best viewpoint over the island.

Getting there: About a 20–25 min uphill walk, or a short drive/taxi to the car park.

Good to know: Open daily year-round; hours shorten in winter.

Half day

Osojnica Viewpoint

The postcard view of Bled. A steep 20–30 min climb up Ojstrica and Osojnica rewards you with the classic panorama of the island, church, and castle — the best photo in town, especially at sunrise or golden hour.

Getting there: Trailhead on the lake's western shore, a lakeside walk from the villa; steep steps — good shoes help.

Good to know: Open anytime; go early for soft light and fewer people.

Half day

Straža — summer toboggan

Right above the lake, Straža hill runs a summer bob/toboggan track, plus a zipline and tubing in season — an easy, fun outing for families and kids (in winter, a small ski slope).

Getting there: A short walk from the lakeshore to the base; a chairlift carries you up.

Good to know: Toboggan and zipline run in the warm season, weather permitting.

Half day

Vintgar Gorge

Wooden walkways cling to a turquoise river through a dramatic gorge, ending at a waterfall — one of Slovenia’s most loved short walks.

Getting there: About 4 km from Bled; drive, seasonal shuttle, or cycle. Buy timed tickets online.

Good to know: Seasonal — roughly spring to autumn. Timed entry.

Half day

Radovna Valley cycling

A gentle, mostly flat cycle route along the clear Radovna river — meadows, farms, and forest, easy for families. Rent bikes in Bled.

Getting there: Ride out from Bled toward the Radovna valley; links up near Vintgar.

Good to know: Best late spring to autumn, dry weather.

Full day

Cycle to Bohinj (new bike path)

Ride the new, mostly car-free Bled–Bohinj cycle route down the Sava valley to Slovenia's largest lake — a rewarding half-to-full day, with a swim or lakeside lunch as your reward.

Getting there: Rent bikes in Bled and follow the marked path; e-bikes make the return easy. Roughly 20 km each way.

Good to know: Best late spring to autumn, dry weather.

Full day

Pokljuka Plateau

A high forested karst plateau of quiet trails and alpine meadows, home to the biathlon centre — cool and calm on hot days.

Getting there: About a 30–40 min drive up from Bled; best explored on foot or by bike.

Good to know: Trails open in season; snow in winter (nordic skiing).

Full day

Lake Bohinj + Vogel + Savica

A full day in the wilder Triglav National Park: the large, quiet Lake Bohinj, the Vogel cable car to panoramic Alpine views, and the short hike to the Savica waterfall.

Getting there: About a 30–40 min drive from Bled; combine all three in one loop.

Good to know: Vogel cable car runs year-round; Savica trail best snow-free months.
