The Story of Vila Elasan
A family villa shaped by Côte d’Azur elegance, wartime displacement, and an extraordinary homecoming.
Vila Elasan was built by Ela in 1935. Inspired by the elegant villas of the Côte d’Azur, she conceived it as a complete architectural whole. The distinctive tower was not a later addition: it has been part of the house from the beginning.
During the Second World War, a high-ranking German officer lived in the villa. At the end of the occupation, as the German forces withdrew, the original furniture was removed from the house and relocated to a railway wagon in Villach, Austria.
Soon after the war, Ela’s son, Saša, found the furniture there and brought it home to Bled. In this way, not only the villa but an important part of its original interior was returned and preserved.
Ela continued to use Vila Elasan as her summer residence until her death in 1978. That year, the villa passed to its current owner, who was still a child. It has remained a family home rather than being divided into apartments or converted into a hotel.
Between 1997 and 2000, the current owner’s father undertook a complete renovation of the house. Its historic character and recognisable silhouette were preserved, while the building was renewed for a new generation; the retaining wall at the front of the property was added during this work.
Today, Vila Elasan welcomes guests as a house with memory, continuity, and atmosphere—still personal, still distinctive, and still true to the vision with which Ela built it in 1935.
